Sky Sports 4 is the fourth Sports Channel by Sky Sports. It shows repeat as well as live programming of several football leagues, such as La Liga. It launched 1999 as a free bonus channel for subscribers of both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2. Sky Sports 4 was originally launched as Sky Sports Extra but later rebranded to Sky Sports Xtra. The name Extra rather than Sky Sports 4 was chosen as the original intention of the channel was to simulcast sporting events showing on the main channels with the addition of interactive services.
